The Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reviving the tourism sector with the much-anticipated return of the Mare Festival—a signature cultural and mountain-climbing event that celebrates the rich heritage, resilience, and natural beauty of Idanre and its people.
Held against the breathtaking backdrop of the Idanre Hills, the Mare Festival symbolizes more than entertainment—it’s a call to rediscover the cultural and economic power of tourism in the Sunshine State. The comeback marks a new era of strategic tourism repositioning, designed to attract local and international visitors, boost small businesses, and strengthen community pride.
“Our goal is to make tourism a pillar of economic diversification. The Mare Festival’s return demonstrates our vision to harness culture and nature for sustainable growth,” an official from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism noted.
As part of the repositioning plan, the government is investing in improved road access, security, and hospitality infrastructure around major tourist attractions, ensuring visitors enjoy a world-class experience. Partnerships with private investors are also being pursued to develop eco-lodges, craft markets, and cultural exhibitions that highlight Ondo State’s unique heritage.
With the revival of the Mare Festival, the Ondo State Government is not just reviving a tradition—it is reigniting a movement that positions the state as a beacon of culture, creativity, and adventure tourism in Nigeria’s Southwest.
